Enhanced enforcement programs initiate or increase the frequency of enforcement of alcohol-related regulations.

What is this strategy?

Catalog of Prevention Strategies (Enhanced Enforcement)

When should I consider implementing this strategy?
  • There is a high number of alcohol-related fatalities or DUIs on a certain night of the year (i.e. 4th of July, New Year’s Eve)
  • During high risk times (i.e. after sporting events, concerts, prom, etc.)
How do I implement this strategy?

Key activities for implementation:

  • Enhanced enforcement programs may include strategies to increase perceived risk of detection by publicizing the increased enforcement.
  • Media campaign may publicize the presence of a mobile alcohol command unit to deter drunk driving.
  • As part of a multi-component college campus strategy to reduce college aged adults from over drinking in dorms by doing walk through of the college campuses on game nights.
