The ASAM Criteria helps clinicians, counselors, and care managers develop patient-centered service plans and make objective decisions about patient admission, continuing care, and transfer/discharge for individuals with addictive, substance-related, and co-occurring conditions. Though their multidimensional assessment and the continuum of care, the criteria can improve patient outcomes.
